I have never been in a real relationship and I'm 22. I'm a mature person though, but I have almost no social life since I'm still living at home. Come to think of it, life has been pretty lonely for as long as I can remember. In other words, yes this religion has wrecked my social life, but I am a fairly mature person. At least, I know I'm alot better than alot of others my age.

JWs and relationship immaturity?
by jstalin inmy jw friend seems to be unusually immature when it comes to relationships and women.
i don't think he's ever had a serious relationship with a woman (he's 23).
he uses the terms "womens" when he speaks about women, and he uses the word "boobies.

Check out this argument.....
by Generic Man ini was wondering if this line of reasoning against the society's claim that 607 was the destruction of jerusalem.
i discovered it some time ago on the this board, but i was wandering if anyone can verify this for me.
according to zechariah 7:1-12, darius i was in his fourth year of rulership and the hebrews have been mourning for 70 years since the destruction of jerusalem.

Every book that they've ever published is a tedious, long-winded bore. Anything they have to say about a given topic can be sumed up into an article, but they make books so that we can waste more of our time reading them. If we're reading their books, we'll have no time to read anything else. With books like Babylon the Great Has Fallen, all they have to do is convince their audience that what they're reading is deep and profound, so they'll stay tuned and what for the next pot-boiler to come out. Sorry if I sound cranky, but I just came back from a meeting.

Hi Ann,
Thanks for the response. I'm not sure of how to respond to this dense passage yet, but I wouldn't be surprised if they misquoted Josephus. I'll have to read it over and then figure how to counter that reasoning. However, this is not so devastating, since no Witness reads the Paradise Restored book anymore. Probably most of them haven't even heard of it and would assume that any book from the 70's is old light. So, I still think that the argument can still be useful.
Anyway, thanks for you're input and keep it coming.

Hello everyone,
I was wondering if this line of reasoning against the society's claim that 607 was the destruction of Jerusalem. I discovered it some time ago on the this board, but I was wandering if anyone can verify this for me. According to Zechariah 7:1-12, Darius I was in his fourth year of rulership and the Hebrews have been mourning for 70 years since the destruction of Jerusalem. According to secular sources, Darius ascended the throne in 521 (the Society is also committed to this date; see Pay Attention to Daniel's Prophecy, pp.52), that means the fourth year of Darius' rule was 517. If 517 is the end of the 70 years, then 587 is the beginning of those years (a date that is accepted by historians). So if this argument is sound, a Witness would have to choose between rejecting 521 as the date for the ascension of Darius I, rejecting Zechariah 7:1-5 (or at least reinterpreting it), or, of course, abandon 607.
So, is this a good argument? I know this topic has been done to death, but I want to make sure this info is correct.

Need your opinion on JW teaching
by DevonMcBride innext week i'm going to speak with a large group of people about the jehovah's witnesses and one or two of their teachings.
i don't have time to discuss all of their bizarre beliefs so i'd like to ask your opinions on which subjects to use.
what would you consider to be the one most outrageous teachings of the watchtower you would chose?

There should be a mention of the society's commitment to 1914 being the beginning of the gentile times, and their commitment to 607 as the date of Jerusalem's destruction. I read a really good argument against 607 and it goes like this:
According to both secular historians and the Society, 521 was date when Darius 1 ascended the throne (see the Society's Pay Attention to Daniel's Prophecy). If you read Zechariah 7:1-5, you will see that it takes place in the fourth year of King Darius, which was 517, and it has been 70 years since the destruction of Jerusalem. If 517 was 70 years since the destruction of Jerusalem, then it was 587 that was when Jersalem was destroyed, not 607. Keep in mind that 586/587 is the time period that all historians agree on.
A Witness would have a hard time figuring out how the society is committed to a date that contradicts both historical and scriptural evidence, unless they figure out that evidence has nothing to do with their commitment in the first place. The real reason for their commitment is their belief that 1914 is relevant to biblical prophecy. In order to prove that 1914 is the beginning of the Gentile times, they'd have to fabricate historial chronology to fit their speculation.
wish you well and hope this helps,
G-Man

Oh yeah, I also hate it when they say "do not lean upon your own understanding." I guess I have to lean upon the understanding of a few old men from Brooklyn. If you do lean upon your own understanding, you end up striving after "higher education" (of course, this word is always used in the pejorative sense) and you become so "haughty and proud" since you've learned what real scholarship looks like.
I could go on, but I hate all of those buzzwords. Talk like a real person, damnit!

You're forgetting "food at the proper time" as in "the faithful and discrete slave, who are serving spirtitual food at the proper time." Also I hate it when they refer to the "annointed" as "spirtitaul brothers of Christ." What a bunch of masterbatory crap!
